Criteria for Evaluating the Quality of Lubricants

2025-01-13

Viscosity
The viscosity of lubricating oil can be qualitatively defined as its flow resistance, which is one of the most important properties of lubricating oil.
Oiliness
Oiliness refers to the performance of polar molecules in lubricating oil adsorbing onto metal surfaces to form a boundary oil film, reducing friction and wear. The better the oiliness, the stronger the adsorption ability of the oil film to the metal surface.
Extreme Pressure Performance
Extreme pressure performance is the ability of lubricating oil to generate an anti-wear, high-pressure resistant chemical reaction boundary film on metal surfaces when organic polar compounds containing sulfur, chlorine, and phosphorus are added to the oil.
Flash Point
The lowest temperature at which the oil vaporizes when heated in standard instruments and ignites upon contact with a flame, becoming the flash point of the oil.
Pour Point
The highest temperature at which lubricating oil can no longer flow freely under specified conditions.
These are some gel-like deposits that not only corrode metal but also exacerbate the wear of parts.
